Identify the noise source
Listen for constant noise such as fans, generators, air conditioners, and road traffic. Also listen for sudden noise such as keyboard taps, chair movement, or people speaking nearby.
Constant noise may be reduced by moving rooms or changing microphone position. Sudden noise is best handled by pausing, repeating the sentence, or recording again.
Improve the room before changing tools
Soft furnishings, curtains, and smaller rooms can reduce echo. Large empty rooms often create reflections that make speech sound distant.
If you are recording on a phone, holding the phone closer to the speaker usually helps more than increasing volume later.
Recommendations
- Record away from music and television audio.
- Use headphones with a microphone for calls when possible.
- Repeat important names or numbers clearly.
Limitations
- Noise removal can damage speech if applied aggressively.
- Overlapping voices remain difficult even in a quiet room.
